Apocalipps: Ruthless Bastard Number 1 Interview

It seems Wu-Tang fans can never get enough of The RZA presents Wu-Tang Killa Bees: The Swarm compilation and the artists that contributed to make this album a timeless classic. The project helped to initiate some of the finest breed of hip-hop artists that the game have ever seen, being under the Wu canopy at that time meant a couple of things, an instant access to a loyal fan-base and respect from the industry (peers and fans alike) as being under Wu was a strong indication of ones high lyrical skills and gift on the mic. There was no downside then to being an affiliate, however just recently, formal associates have expressed the need to be viewed independent of the Wu motif as they felt pigeon-holed and have not had any form of dealings with the Wu or its members for a period of time, Some still claim and maintain this alliance while others had fallen out over business or personal reasons and the rest have simply moved onto other things.

The Swarm compilation had guest of artists from Wu-Tang Clan members to the likes of Black Knights, Northstar, Killarmy, La The Darkman, Wu-Syndicates, Streetlife, Remedy, Royal Fam, Da Beggaz Clan, Sunz Of Man, Darkim Be Allah, Shyheim, Tekitha, Ruthless Bastards and so on and so forth. Unlike today where everyone wants to claim the “W” with little or nothing to do with the Wu or even anything new to offer, every artist on the Swarm brought something unique to the table and helped to elevate the Wu sound and movement that has enabled it to remain the legacy that it is today.

Ruthless Bastards was one of that collective, consisting Apocalipps, Beno, Iron Mic, Sha Gotti, and Truck, the group also hailing from Staten Island had its own brand of hip-hop and was already established before joining forces with the Wu. With a production team and management behind them the group completed albums during 1997-2000 period that have never seen the light of the day, Bastards decided to go their own route and have constantly been releasing mix-tapes as a group and solo artists independently to date. The group has had it’s a rough ride but have managed to stick together and even increased in number due to some of its members being incarcerated, Apocalipps has remained the most recognisable member of the group, with a planned official overdue debut in works and a solo promising solo project from Lipps, Wu-International caught up with Ruthless front man to find out why its taken the group so long to release an album, their Wu days and relationship with the Clan members, music and life. Unfortunately similar to some of his partners in the group, Apocalipps is currently locked up at the time of publishing this interview which was conducted almost a year ago and Wu-Int felt the time was right to make public this interview as an appreciation to Lipps, his music and as a note for the fans to continue to support Lipps and the Ruthless Bastards. Groups like this don’t exist any more in hip-hop!

ShaCronz: Who's Next? Interview

C.C.F Division is not a name that goes unnoticed especially within the Wu insignia, consisting of Free Murda, ShaCronz and Terra Tory the group were slowly introduced but heavily used on Popa Wu’s “Visions Of The 10th Chamber” in 2000 and then went on to feature on numerous Wu-Tang projects along side heavy weights such as Ghostface Killah, The RZA, LA The Darkman and so on.

The affiliation with Wu goes beyond music as its thicker than water with the bloodline, ShaCronz and Free are both brothers and sons to the legendary mentor to and father figure to the clan members, Popa Wu, as well as being cousins to the foundation of the clan, GZA/Genius, The RZA and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Bronze Nazareth, The Wisemen & The Almighty Leaves Babygrande To Prep 3 Kings Series

After over five years of a working relationship at Babygrande Records and Wu-Tang Clan-affiliated artists Bronze Nazareth, The Wiseman and Almighty left the New York label for Seattle's Sound Records & Entertainment.

A&R and Almighty founding member M-Eighty said, "It just felt like the right time to do what’s best for us. Almighty, Bronze Nazareth, and the Wisemen gave Babygrande gold and yet they somehow managed to turn it into shit. All the new material we have been recording for these three records is far too great to turn over to Babygrande and relive the headache of why we provide them with classic material and all we get in return in doctored accounting statements and excuses.” As the quote indicated, financial support and agreements were a major motive in the leave.

Bronze Nazareth, who produced on several Babygrande projects, from his own to 2008's Protools album from GZA, added, "Our fans are going to follow us regardless of what label imprint is on the back of our product. Sound Records embraced all of us and brought us back to the essence of when a label made you feel like a member of the family and when you prosper as a family everyone wins.” Legal Representative for the camp provided that, “Babygrande Records had the opportunity to retain the rights to the three entities (Bronze Nazareth, The Wisemen, and Almighty) and either chose not to meet their contracted fiscal option guarantees or their contracts became unenforceable due to the dissolution of partnering labels Think Differently Music Group (Bronze Nazareth) and Kings Row Music Group (The Wisemen).”

Wu-Tang members and affiliates GZA and 9th Prince are believed to still remain Babygrande artists.

At Sound Records & Entertainment, the three acts will reportedly all release albums within 45 days of each other, beginning in July of this year. This is billed as "The 3 Kingz Campaign." Wisemen member Kevlaar 7 noted, "This same camaraderie is what breathed new life into Duck Down Records when they partnered with Ecko a few years back. We want the world to know that are combined forces are unstoppable and the team is definitely here to stay.”

Sound will also release 60 Second Assassin's album, as well as a reported collaboration between Keith Murray and Canibus, coming soon.

Achozen Project Set To Drop Soon

System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadijan and Wu Tang leader the RZA are close to completing the debut release of their embryonic supergroup Achozen. The new band will consist of Odadijan, The RZA, Beretta 9 of Killarmy, and new artist Reverend William Burke.

In recording sessions, the group has relied heavily on live instrumentation to craft their sound. Between principal producers RZA and Odadijan, the pair has reportedly used only two samples on the entire record. The group is also adamant about not attempting to recreate the late 90s and early 2000s "Nu Metal Era," popularized by such acts as Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park. "We have a product that I can go and see if I want to do this independently or if I want to go through major distribution," Odadijan explained to the Artisan News Service. "I'm not exactly sure if people are going to get the concept. It's a Hip-Hop concept record and right now. I don't know if the radio is ready for it. But I really am not releasing this, you know me and RZA just said it in a lot of interviews we want to help people with this. We just want to exercise brains, we really want to help kids think. It's a very positive record. It's a positive outlook on life instead of the usual negative."

Even with the unnamed project's official designation as a rap album, Odadijan further cautions fans from expecting anything that resembles the standard fair of mainstream Hip-Hop's current sound. "This isn't a commercial Hip-Hop record, you know what I mean? It's got stories and it's an adventure. It's a musical experience," Odadijan stated. "I don't expect everyone to hear it and go 'Oh, I get it.' No, no, no. Each song is different on another tip. We recorded it in a room, without a vocal booth. I mean this is such a from the heart record."

So far, Achozen has completed guest spots with the GZA/Genius, Red Hot Chili Pepper guitarist John Frusciante, and former Machine Head guitarist Logan Madar, who will also handle the LP's mixing.
At press time, RZA and Odadijan are looking to finish the album by the end of January.

You know my Sunz of Man crew [has always said] that 'first shall be last and the last shall be first,' so I take that as a sign that '09 is my time to wake up some of these heads that may have slept on the g.o.d since our last offering."

This record is a representation of self spoken through the words of the heavenly father. As a musician, I express my culture, my life, and my influences as a product of the '60s till now shines evident throughout. I am a trend-setter who, since day one, has always made music based purely on my love for music. My speech and views on this record is my version of prophecy professed onto man, woman, and child. All I can ask is that my words don't fall upon deaf ears."

2007 marked a comeback of a very important group not just within the Wu-Tang family trees, or VA hip-hop scene but also for hip-hop in general. Myalansky the backbone and original founder of the Wu-Tang affiliated group Wu-Syndicate made some headlines when he lyrically attacked his former rhyme partner Napoleon, No one was sure what was happening, and followed that up by genially giving back to the fans with an exclusive Wu-International release in the form of a free download of the highly sort after mixtape that has been out of print for a while “The Syndicate Is Back”. Fans have forever been waiting for another Wu-Syndicate (Joe Mafia and Myalansky) album ever since they grazed The RZA Presents Wu-Tang Killa Beez “Swarm” compilation and went platinum with the unsullied “Where Was Heaven” and their classic album.

With demand for a new album from the group and that of Myalansky, the wait is over, firstly Myalansky drops his first solo album “Drastic Measurez” which contains the already familiar hot single “Only Heaven Knows” and 9 new hot songs with productions mainly handled by Jon Vegaz for Capitol V Productionz/Traksmithz and Dj Sean. This album is currently available for digital download and can be bought directly from Myalansky’s myspace page http://www.myspace.com/myalansky757  via paypal; a physical copy will be available at a later date.

Still to come by end of this year is the long awaited Wu-Syndicate seconds début album with Joe Mafia and Myalansky on board on “Grimlenz”. When asked, Myalansky breaks down the meaning of the title of the album "Grimlenz which means over the years through our eyes things have been "Grim" or in other words ugly, take a look at the 911 situation... The Middle East situation, Wu-Tang, economy recession, crime tales and politics. Even in the hood, it has gotten harder for people to eat so thru the lenz things have been Grim.” What more can be expected from hip-hops finest when it comes to story telling grim hip-hop? Grimlenz drops soon, stay tuned at Wu-International for more updates, for now support the new album by buying it, recommended and endorsed by Wu-International.
