Big Supa - The Long Beach Pusha Interview [West Coast
Killa Beez Series #9]
Big Sup, Supa, or
Supa Best is a name that rings terror on the battle scene in LA,
a fearless challenger, Big Sup has battled and beaten a number
of artists in the game right now, most notable one was his
classmate at that time, Techniec from Tha Dogg Pound click, who
equally was also notorious at that time in the game. Coming out
of the West Coast Killa Beez, Black Ball'd and Committee camp,
Big Supa hails from North Long Beach, California and grew up
with the Black Knights and like most teens in his earlier days
was involved in so many things, from the rap game to the street
hustle, the street lifestyle almost got him killed as he was
shoot about 5 times around 2000. Coming out of hospital after
the shooting, Big Sup kept a low profile and got back on with
the Black Knights and on the very day the Knights recorded "Killa
Cal Lifestyle" Big Sup was in the studio with the Knights, Snoop
Dogg, 2Pac, Outlawz and more, and he promised himself and others
to take the rap game seriously. Rugged Monk asked him to spit
and he delivered and have never looked back after that as Monk
and Crisis got him initiated into Black Ball'd movement and the
Killa Bee Gang.
Big Sup has gone
to release a number of underground albums "Supa: The Long Beach
Pusha" and last years "8 Dayz A Week" which were critically
acclaimed with versatile topics and songs covering every thing
about his life, the streets, gangs, battling rhymes as well as
something for the ladies, club scene and social and political
topics. He is now currently working on a major release planned
for end of the year or early next year titled "Bigger than what
you thought" as well as other side projects, collaborations and
shows. Wu-International caught up with him early this year as
part of the West Coast Killa Beez serires to find out what makes
him thick, what it takes to be part of the Killa Beez, his
history with the Committee, Black Knights, the battle field, and
much more..... Enjoy!!
On Friday, August 27th, I had the
pleasure of being invited to the U.S.A. Shaolin Temple in
Manhattan by 9th Prince for an exclusive interview with him
and his Hip Hop comrades, P.R. Terrorist (a.k.a. Dom Pachino)
and Beretta 9 (a.k.a. Kinetic 9) of the legendary Wu-Tang
affiliated group Killarmy. Earlier that evening I kicked it
with 9th Prince and his brother, the RZA, during a special
in-store event at Fat Beats NY and 9th informed me that he
was rounding up his Killarmy brethren for a special
announcement that he wanted me to film.
Naturally, I obliged
and 9th, Dom P., and Kinetic formally announced the official
return of their group Killarmy. It’s been nine years since
their last LP “Fear, Love & War” dropped, but these emcees
are drafting a brand new set of war plans as they prepare
for modern Hip Hop warfare.
“We’re comin’ back with something
that’s strong. We only drop good music. The last 3 albums
you heard is classics. We’re gonna bring back that pure
element to Hip Hop that they’ve been missing, that real
military street slang.”
— Dom P.
In addition to the
upcoming new Killarmy album, 9th Prince announced he will be
releasing his third solo album of 2010 this fall titled “One
Man Army” (featuring the RZA, Dom Pachino, Kinetic 9, Sav
Killz, True Master, Bronze Nazareth, and BP) as well as a
separate brand new collaborative album with his group-mate
Dom Pachino. 9th Prince has been hard at work all year
helping the Wu-Tang family further its cause and he’s
finally rallied the troops for the fourth studio album from
Killarmy.
“I’ma put that W on my back and
carry that flag man, keep it movin’, you know what I mean?”
— 9th Prince
As Killarmy reforms
its brigade, the rules of engagement have drastically
changed since its last military campaign. The battle terrain
is very different from what it was over a decade ago, with a
magnitude of ’90s R&B beats sounding harder than the
majority of the watered-down Hip Hop we’re exposed to on the
radio today. Killarmy’s imminent return to Hip Hop may come
in the form of “shock and awe” from its Weapons of Mic
Destruction. Ultimately, the time for negotiation has
passed. Hip Hop has been slowly dying for years now and war
will soon be upon us. Killarmy just may be our last hope in
the war on hipsters. So, be prepared to grab your army suits
and your fat black boots, military gear and go out like
troops…
Be sure to watch Money Miz’s
exclusive video interview with Killarmy after the jump…

Eternal - The Dark Knight Interview [West Coast
Killa Beez Series #8]
The West Coast
Killa Beez movement has long been credited for invading the
entertainment business like a hostile army at their enemy’s
gates. The artists for this week in continuation with the West
Coast Killa Beez Series is none other than Eternal, while most
of the Beez in the West are from either Compton or Long Beach,
Eternal hails from San Diego, California and has taken it up
himself to spread the movement past Cali, US to Europe and Asia.
Born and raised in San San Diego, CA, Eternal developed a deep
passion for music at the young age of seven years old. It
wouldn’t be until the age of fifteen that Eternal would begin
writing down the lyrics he heard in his head and perfecting his
skills. At the age of sixteen Eternal was able to get himself
studio time and began to record his music and perfect his flow.
He would then spend the next three years perfecting his style
and lyrics and at the age of 19 he set out to make music his
full time career. Instead of waiting for a label to show up or a
financier to step into his life Eternal blazed his own path to
success forming the legendary San Diego group Kastlevania.
Kastlevania’s first release was “Str8 From Tha Dungeon” which
Eternal not only rapped on but also produced all of the music
for. “Str8 From tha Dungeon” released in 2000 was distributed
nationally through major retail chains across the United States,
which Eternal also lined up. The Success of “Str8 From Tha
Dungeon” combined with Eternals consistent networking led him to
not only establishing himself as a factor in the San Diego music
scene but also to his first nomination at the San Diego Music
Awards for best album. After his nomination Eternal returned to
the studio and created Kastlevania’s sophomore album
“Kastlevania 2; The Battle Angels.” Once again Eternal rapped on
the project and produced every track on it. The album released
in 2002 was nominated for two awards at the San Diego Music
Awards for best group project and album of the year. The project
won the Album of The Year award, which in turn further exposed
Eternal’s name in the West Coast music scene.
With the release and success of both Kastlevania projects
Eternal set out on a tireless networking campaign that would see
him not only performing on shows weekly but also creating
relationships with other artists across the United States. In
2006 Eternal returned to the studio to create his highly
anticipated solo EP “Blazed
& Konfuzed.” Upon the release of the project Eternal was
once again nominated at the San Diego music awards for Best
Album and later joined forces with another San Diego group
Comfortable Creeps with his group Kaslevania to form Kastle
Creeps to release another interesting self titled project "Kastle
Creeps" in 2009. After the release of his album
Eternal connected with the one of the founding members of the
West Coast Killa Beez and Black Knight member, The Rugged Monk
who immediately recognized Eternal’s dangerous combination of a
presence behind the mic crossed with his never say die attitude.
Monk immediately made Eternal a member of the West Coast Killa
Beez and Eternal made it his priority to continue creating
classic music while representing the ever growing Wu-Tang
movement. This new affiliation combined with his established
name as a solo artist has led Eternal to not only sell over
50,000 units independently but also perform along such notable
artists as; Cypress Hill, RZA, Ice T, Too Short, Devin The Dude,
Bizzy Bone, Project Blowed, Killarmy, Killah Priest, Papa
Chief of Brooklyn Zoo, Canibus, Ill Bill, Necro, Souls of
Mischief, Black Knights, The Indovizualz, and many more.
Eternal strives to be more than just an artists, he
recently launched an online show “The Eternal Show” which has
been described as a Hip Hop version of MTV’s popular TRL
featuring in depth interviews, behind the scenes footage and
shows with artists such as Raekwon, Planet Asia and Brooklyn
Zoo. The show is Eternal’s way of not only spreading his music,
the "W" and name but also showcasing the independent artists he
is around on a daily basis, who normally might not get the
attention they deserve.
While versatile, Eternal is commonly known for his horror core
type hip-hop, a sub-genre that is currently lost in hip-hop
today, Wu-International catches up with the man to find out how
it all started, his Gravediggaz and Marilyn Manson influence,
being a part of the KBG, his impressive discography and much
more... Enjoy!!
The Committee - The Homicidal Committee Interview [West Coast
Killa Beez Series #7]
A committee (or
"commission") is a type of small deliberative assembly that is
usually intended to remain subordinate to another, larger
deliberative assembly. The Committee in question is a group of
artists who have grown up together and came together out of
their mutual respect and love for the music and art form and the
larger deliberative assembly mentioned is that of the West Coast
Killa Beez. Commonly referred to Homicidal Committee due to their ability to
wreck havoc on the microphone, The Committee mainly consists of The Arsinest aka Leathafase, Rah Arsenal and the remaining members
from the Black Knights (Crisis The Sharpshooter and Rugged
Monk).
Without going into
too much details about the Black Knights and the West Coast Killa
Beez movement again (If you are not up on game as to who the
West Coast finest are by now then you shouldn't be reading this,
do your research first), The Committee will be the first group
out of Black Ball'd Entertainment to drop an album after the
Black Knight's "All Skillz, No Luck" is released. The group has
steadily been building a rep and name for themselves with
features on numerous projects, tours, and local shows.
With over 10 years in the game as students of The RZA, the
Black Knights have grown, established their own movement and
have extended their hands out to recruit and join forces with
talents that have been around but never had the opportunity to
showcase their skills until now. Like actual killer bees,
collectively the Black Ball'd entertainment has sparked
sparked a West Coast renaissance that is ready to sting the
world fatally and we are not just talking about the rap game,
like Wu-Tang Clan and what the RZA did, they are also building
their own empire that houses raw talents from emcees to business
men, R&B singers, producers, video production and much more.
The knowledge, skills and experience of
Black Knights is more than god enough to know that anything they
endorse is solid gold; meaning, they would not just join forces or
support anything that was not of quality or high standard that
they have adhered to over these years, lyrically and musically
speaking. This automatically suggests that the less familiar
names to the fans (Arsenal and Arsinest) have something
outstanding to offer to this movement as well as the game, don't
just take our word for it, proof they say is in the pudding,
listen to their music and you can see why Crisis and Monk teamed
up with these two gifted wordsmiths to form The Committee, their combined
witty styles, ill word play and knowledge of the culture is what
makes them stand out from the rest of the groups in the game and
will enable them to move this new movement forward to a higher
height.
Find out more about
the history of the Committee, formation, upcoming projects,
and much more on this exclusive Interview which is part of the Westcoast Killa Beez series currently running on the site.
Enjoy!!
Hell Razah
Unveils Details For Long Awaited Heaven Razah
Brooklyn-bred MC Hell Razah finished his
new album Heaven Razah in late March, and hoped to release
the album this summer. The Wu-Tang Clan affiliate and former
Sunz of Man man member released his acclaimed debut
Renaissance Child in 2007, and fans have been eagerly
awaiting his follow-up ever since. What fans were not
anticipating was the health emergency that landed Razah in
the hospital in April, just after he finished recording the
album. With the support of a still-recovering Razah, Nature
Sounds is now proud to announce that Heaven Razah will be in
stores everywhere on September 28, 2010.
Heaven Razah marks a rebirth for Razah,
who has
re-fashioned himself as a
modern day hip-hop prophet, spitting spiritual wisdom about
the apocalypse, the presence of demons, mortality, and the
afterlife. In light of recent events, his words sound even
more prophetic. "It was like a premonition. I was thinking
about these themes, and my destiny was already in my brain,
but I didn't even know it," explains Razah in his first
comments since his being hospitalized. "This is my
testimonial. It's like I'm seeing the future through music."
In recent years, Hell Razah has become one of the most
prolific artists in hip-hop’s underground, releasing albums
with 4th Disciple, T.H.U.G. Anglez, Blue Sky Black Death,
and his super group, Black Market Militia (Razah, Tragedy
Khadafi, Killah Priest, and Timbo King). While Razah enjoys
collaborating with his peers, he held off on guest spots for
Heaven Razah, with only R.A. The Rugged Man, Timbo, and
Shabazz The Disciple making appearances. “I wanted to show
that I can hold my own,” he explains. “To me, features look
like mixtapes. If you go back and look at classic albums
like Illmatic, there weren’t a lot of features.” Backing up
Razah's prophecy is an impressive collection of knocking
instrumentals from the likes of Havoc, Ayatollah, Bronze
Nazareth, 4th Disciple, and Mathematics.
In one more twist of fate, the album will hit stores just a
few days before Razah's birthday, which falls on October
1st. "There is no better birthday present I could get than
sharing this album with my fans," says Razah. "There's a lot
of soul in this album." In a final message to supporters,
Razah gave an update on his status. "Right now, I'm in
rehabilitation, doing physical therapy everyday to get back
to 100%. I'm writing rhymes too, and the ideas are flowing.
That's my spiritual therapy."

New Update:
Stone Mecca - Meccanism Interview [West Coast
Killa Beez Series #6]
The L.A.-based funk/soul band
and Touch the Music Records artists Stone Mecca, was hand-picked
by The RZA to back Wu-Tang on the 2007 North American Rock the
Bells Tour and co-headlined THE RZA’s Bobby Digital Digisnacks
Tour in 2008. This nine-piece ensemble is quickly building a
reputation as a versatile and dynamic live band that
effortlessly slides from funk to hip hop to soul without missing
a beat. Stone Mecca has been featured in Billboard Magazine and
USA Today Online. Stone Mecca also performed on the Repo Men, Afro Samurai
and Afro Samurai Resurrection soundtracks and Wu-Tang's 8
Diagrams.
Releasing a live album "Stone
Mecca Live On 54th" last year due
to request from fans with limited amount on CD, the group has
been voted the best live band within the Wu by our site, and
judging from what feedbacks we have had about the group from
fans and critics alike, we were right! "This CD will give those who haven't seen us play live
the opportunity to hear what it’s like at a Stone Mecca show,"
says band founder Trú James. "I truly believe we've captured the
energy and excitement of our performances with this CD."
Truly so, since The Roots, there have not been anything else like
this to grace the hip-hop, funk and soul scene.
Independently releasing their début album "First Contact" in 2008, the fans have been
waiting eagerly for another project from the group, Probably one
of the upcoming greatest live bands currently around, Stone
Mecca have returned to the studio and are half way through
recording their second album. While they might not been seen as
part of the Killa Bee Gang commonly claimed by the likes of
Black Knights and Northstar, Stone
Mecca are definitely part of the West Coast Killa Beez
collective and they have brought in something unique that has
been lacking especially within the Wu camp... that live element!
Yes Stone Mecca is a proper band, under the guidance of Tru
James the group members all play at least one or more
instruments and compose their own music. There have been
talks since Wu came into the scene of other live bands that have
played along side Wu on a number of occasions but Stone Mecca is
the first official band affiliated with Wu and they bring in
much more than just that live element as evident on their album
and live shows.
The fans are now getting
familiar with the group and it's members, while we have
interviewed one of our favourite groups on a number of
occasions, it is only right to showcase another chamber of music
and a different side and part of the West Coast Killa Beez
series with another interview with Stone Mecca. We caught up
with the group's main leader Tru James to find out what the
group has been up to, the much talked about Live album, upcoming
album tentatively titled "Dreams", assisting RZA with the Kanye
West's upcoming album, Stone Mecca's full length film featuring
songs from upcoming album and much more, Meccanism is here...
Enjoy!!
As most of you know Wu Tang Clan got
together to do a European “Reunion” tour during this summer
. In an NME interview Raekwon said the following about this
tour: "It’s a great feeling to come back together and see
brothers.Every now and then you see cats with a little bit
of gray hair and you're like, 'Yo I got gray hair too!' We
get a chance to laugh again and really bring that
brotherhood back to the table which has been gone for a
minute."
When I noticed Stijn Coppens pictures of
the Wu gig in Holland online, I already had high hopes that
this would indeed be the case( click here).
Just look at this backstage photo . Think it’s safe to say
it’s been a while since we seen the Wu that laidback and
relaxed together. Good chance the recent, well received
solo albums and quality collaborations have something to do
with that.

New Update:
Dexter Wiggle - The Official Entrance To The Chambers Of
Dexter Wiggle Interview
[West Coast
Killa Beez Series #5]
An eruption is
about to take place; there is something about Dexter Wiggle that
forces one to listen to the man or rather ask "Who is that?". RZA is known for his gift of spotting talents and aligning
himself with them, the proof is very evident with the likes of
Black Knights, Holocaust, Stone Mecca
and over on the East Coast, Sunz of Man, Timbo King,
Killarmy, Darkim Be Allah, Reverend William Burke, Suga Bang
Bang just to name a few of the hundreds of talented artists,
musicians and so on under the Wu family tree that have
come through the Abbott to date. Dexter Wiggle is not an exception to
this list, in fact, he is a great addition in helping to
strengthen and add on to the tree. Lately some fans have
been doubting if the Wu is still relevant and the number of
bogus and unrelated artists claiming the Wu that are not part of
it have watered down the standards associated with such name and
affiliation. A breath of fresh air Dexter brings something
exceptionally new and unique to the table with his sing along
rapping style that is not very common or resemblant to anyone out
there. A well rounded artist who charms the microphone be
it singing, rapping, chanting or whatever with his unique flow,
voice, word play and expressions; a skill that RZA noticed and
got him involved in a number of projects and albums, it goes
without saying that Dexter Wiggle is the first and only Killa
Bee from the West that has ever been featured on a Wu-Tang
album. A feature that is restricted to very few Killa Beez due
to the large amount of them, the number of Killa Beez that have ever featured on a Wu album is probably not
more than 4 if not mistaken.
Not much is known
about Dexter outside the Westcoast Killa Beez gang and within the
Wu fans until late. Whilst it would appear Dexter crept out of
nowhere, he has been around the music scene for a long time, and
met the Black Knights through the great late Doc Doom in their
early formation, when the Knights were simply Dirty Doggz,
returning after a couple of years break to find the Dirty Doggz were now Black Knights and signed with Wu-Tang. Few might
have missed him on Black Knights' first album "Every Knight Is A Black
Knight" on the posse cut "What ya niggaz looking at me for"
due to the number of the then new names on there along the
Knights and RZA, but he surely couldn't have been missed on his
later contributions on
Afro Samurai
soundtracks 1 and
2
(Resurrection) as well as the latest Bobby Digital "Digi
Snacks" and of course his unexpected but relevant feature on
Wu-Tang's last album "The
8 diagrams". He will also be featured on the upcoming Black
Knights' "All Skillz No Luck" album amongst other upcoming
projects.
A fan once
described Dexter Wiggle as a "Marmite": you either love his music
or hate it, and of course there have been forums where fans did
not show any keenness to his style, it should however be pointed out
that Marmite is nutritious and full of vitamins regardless of
how one perceives the taste and can be used in different ways
that are beneficially.
It is time to find out more about one of the West Coast's best
kept secret, find out about the man, his background, aspirations
and more on this Wu-International West Coast Killa Beez series.
Enter the chambers of Dexter Wiggle because you will surely be
hearing more of and from him, Enjoy!!
True Master - The Master Craftsman Interview
[Wu-Element Series #8 ]
As the saying goes
"better late than never" or maybe it's "all good things come to
those who wait"? Either way we ran a Wu-Element series a
couple of months back, and the intention was to interview every Element that was
involved in that movement from those that were there in the very
beginning (The RZA, Inspectah Deck, True Master, 4th Disciple
and Allah Mathematics) to those that came in between (Goldfinghaz,
Choco, Darkim Be Allah) and the latest additions (Cilvaringz,
Bronze Nazareth and Moongod). Wu-Tang wouldn't be the legacy it
is today if not for these Elements, the ones that were on the
background and instrumental to every quality album and hit
records that the Wu were known for. The series was a success and
highly applauded by fans as we managed to get almost everybody
interview with exception to The RZA, True Master and 4th
Disciple. Interestingly, very few wrote asking if we were lucky
to get the RZA for an interview, probably as they assumed it was
impossible as the man is so often busy but many wrote demanding,
asking, begging and enquiring about True Master and 4th
Disciple's interviews. Now these producers/artists are
equally as busy as the Abbott but one thing was certain, it was
not just difficult to get hold of them but it was certain the
fans were requesting for two of their favourite producers within
the Elements. Read the interviews and comments, even Deck, Cilvaringz and Mathematics have all hinted that their favourite
producers were either True or 4th Disciple.
For those who are
not fully in tune with the "Master" and his work, he was
the one responsible for hits such as "Brooklyn Zu","Heaterz",
"Fish" and and so on, some might not have recognised him tearing
up the microphone on tracks with Gravediggaz, Sunz of Man, Royal
Fam and lately on GZA's Pro Tools and Afro Samurai soundtrack.
True derives his rap nom de plume from the martial arts movies
of the same name, and was initially known to have started off as
an associate of the great late Guru from Gangstarr (he made a
rare rapping appearance on Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2 project and
his only released solo track ever, "Who's The Truest" appeared
on a Guru CD which also included "Hi-Energy", a song he
produced for Fabidden). True Master joined up with the Wu-Tang
and was mentored by RZA before gradually increasing his profile
with standout tracks on Wu-Tang Clan and affiliate albums
becoming extremely prolific and crucial member of the Wu-Tang
production team to date and much like Mathematics, he has generally adhered to the
traditional Wu-Tang sound, while the group's original main
producer RZA ventured into cleaner, "Digital" territory with a
limited use of samples and the inclusion of synthesizers and
live instrumentation. A very versatile and innovative producer,
True has created hits for those outside the Wu circle as well as
such as Afu-ra, Black Rob and so on and he is currently working
on his debut album "Master Craftsman" as well as recently
joining forces with another master (BlastMaster that is) KRS-One
to collaborate on a full album "Meta-Historical" expected
sometime in August.
In midst of his
busy schedule and with a little patience from us and the fans, True
Master finally came "Tru" with the interview answers, as
the master talks about his upcoming projects, emceeing,
producing, uncredited works, Gangstarr foundation and much
more. Wu-International in conjunction with WuTangCorp proudly
presents the long awaited, highly anticipated and possibly
the last in our Wu-Element series of interviews "True Master's interview, Enjoy...
If it is up to Cyrus Malachi
and his Triple Darkness Crew Brittania will certainly be
ruling the air- and e-waves in 2010 with their combined free
mixtape called “The Isis papers” and later this year with
Cyrus’ debut solo album. The crew debuted in 2008 with
'Anathema', an L.P which has become known as a UK classic.
After that he bombed the UK again on M9’s “144.000” album,
featured on Endemic ‘s solid drops and even formed UK
supergroup the Orphans of cush ( consisting of Kyza
Smirnoff, Cyrus Malachi, Melanin 9, and Masikah) . In the
past 3 years he worked with people like Ruste Juxx, Ill
Bill, Sav Killz, Leathaface, Njeri Earth, Bronze Nazareth
and Blasphemy, he has also supported GZA, Saigon, Immortal
Technique, Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Redman . His
upcoming album will feature amongst others people like
Cipher Jewelz, Darkim be Allah, Timbo King, Ruste Juxx,Iron
Braydz, Kevlar 7 and Shabazz the Disciple…
Indovizualz - Do It Movin', Keep It Movin'
Interview
[West Coast
Killa Beez Series #4]
The common
definition of "Individual" is either that of a being
or characteristic of a single thing or person, or
separate and distinct from others of the same kind.
Regardless of how you want to see it, The West Coast
Killa Beez group known as The Indovizualz consist of
Ichie Palmz, Poison Ivy and Legend and are based out
of Southern California, LA and they described the name to
mean 'A solo artist as a Group", meaning various flows,
styles and contribution from various parties within a unit
as a team to make music that is 100% sparked by the beat or
music itself. The group members do not consider themselves
as rappers but emcees and stay away from words like rap acts
as coined within the industry.
Indovizualz are
the first group of its kind within the Wu-Tang
family tree, and while it is easy to compare them to
the likes of say Fugees and Digable Planets due to
the structure of the group (One femcee and two male
emcees), this type of formation is still a rare one in hip-hop.
While Poison, Legend and Ichie Palmz are on the
forefront and carrying the name, Indovizualz is also
a larger and bigger family which has been in
existence for over 15 years now. The group's leader
Legend was around when the Black Knights were signed
with by The RZA but missed out due to a number of
reasons covered in this interview. A couple of years
and missed opportunities, Legend recouped, got his
group back on again, connected with the Black
Knights and the Indovizualz have not looked back
since then. Playing a vital part on the resurgence
of the West Coast Killa Beez (also known as Killa
Bee Gang), the Indovizualz kept it moving and did it
moving with a number of collaborations, shows, side
projects and events as well as independently
releasing the successful and highly sort after debut
album in 2009 "D.I.M
K.I.M = Do It Move'n Keep It Move'n" which
featured the likes of Black Knights, Dexter Wiggles,
The Committee, Warcloud and so on. From the art work
to the selection of beats, topics, styles displayed
on the album it is evident the group went out of
their way to show and prove that they were far from
a one dimensional style group and had something
unique to contribute to the Killa Bee Gang, West
Coast, Hip-hop, and music in general.
Having aligned themselves
with Black Knights and the Black Ball'd movement,
Wu-International caught up with each member of the
Indovizualz as part of the West Coast Killa Beez Interview
Series to find out how the group started, what they are
currently working on, the album "D.I.M.
K.I.M", their affiliation to the Wu and every thing else
the fans have been writing and emailing to find out about
the group,
Enjoy!!!
Throughout his illustrious career, The RZA, has
always prided himself in discovering and working
with some of the best artists in the hip hop game.
One listen to the astounding RZA Presents Northstar
and it's perfectly clear why the Wu-Tang Clan
mastermind gave the Long Beach-based duo of Christ
Bearer and Meko a much coveted spot in the Wu
family Tree. Without question, Northstar's debut ranks
among the most promising West Coast releases to
emerge in years alongside that of their peers and
family member the Black Knights who were once collectively
known as the Black Knights of the Northstar.
From
the start, Black Knight and Northstar's decidedly East Coast lyrical
outlook always perplexed some people on the West
Coast even though The RZA discovered the group's
talent back in 1998 during a chance encounter
outside of The Beat (a Los Angeles radio station). "RZA
is the father to us in the game," explains Christ
Bearer, whose light, animated voice provides the
perfect balance to Meko's powerful, husky tone. "He
gave birth to Northstar when other people in the
West Coast really didn't take on to us. The RZA was
the one that really took us on. He gave birth to us
and now we've got a career by the grace of Allah."
"While I was growing up I always catered to the East
Coast artists but I also loved Boyz-N-The Hood and
that classic West Coast sound of Eazy-E, Toddy Tee,
King T," Christ Bearer explains. "At the same time,
I catered to East Coast brothers all through life
even through 2Pac and Biggie beefed. We always gave
respect to the fathers of the music who created it
and where it came from. At the same time, we both
come from Long Beach so it's like we really want to
rep the hood."
Northstar's name itself represents its hood and much
more. "North" signifies their roots on the North
Side of Long Beach, while "Star" reflects the word's
significance throughout black history. "We want to
let people know that you're a star when you
determine you're a star," Christ Bearer says.
"That's what we bring to the game."
After discovering Northstar in L.A., RZA continued
to be drawn to the duo because of their musical
abilities and their deep sense of self. Northstar
was then featured on a number of Wu-Tang projects,
including both the Wu-Tang Killa Bees albums The
Swarm Volume 1 and The Sting, the soundtrack for
2000's Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai and Popa
Wu's album, Visions Of The Tenth Chamber. After
years of preparing for their first album the group
finally dropped their self titled debut album "Booby
Digital
Presents...." in 2004. The group excelled
on this project and showed everyone why the album
was worth the wait with contributions from Armand
Van Helden, Killarmy, RZA, Black Knight's Doc Doom
and more. Instead of keeping the fans waiting that
long for another album, the group followed up with
another album "Underground
Shit" which was independently released. The
sales and demand for the album was overwhelming and
it sold out quick despite the fact it was not
commercially promoted or distributed. This prompted
Chambermusik records to pick it and re-release it
again commercially as "Westcoast
Killa Beez....". The group dropped an online
only album in 2008 entitled "For
Every Will There Is A Way" in digital format.
Christ
Bearer has been the most active member having
released a solo EP album produced entirely by West
Coast veteran Skarekrow and has gone on to feature
on almost every Wu related projects from Afro
Samurai soundtrack to Bobby Digital's Digi Snacks
album and most recently the Wu Killa Beez
compilation "The
Swarm 3: Pollen". can been also be heard
on Afro
Samuari II, the last
Bobby Digital
"Digi Snacks" album.
This
interview was conducted sometime in late 2009 in
preparation for the West Coast Killa Beez series
Wu-International had planned and on this interview
Christ Bearer kept mentioning his new group Yellow
Jackets which was something foreign and new to us,
until this year with the release of the Killa Beez
compilation;
The Swarm Part 3: Pollen project. While one big
family, the West Coast Killa Bee Gang is under the
canopy of two main groups and foundation, Black
Knights and Northstar, and the new additions have
either come in through Black Knights (Dexter Wiggle,
Indovizualz, Eternal, Committee etc) or Northstar
(Yellow Jackets, 71Raw etc).
So who
are the Yellow Jackets, Why was Christ Bearer
screaming out the group's name on almost every
sentence? what is the future of Northstar? Where is
Meko? find out this and more on the third
installment of the West Coast Killa Beez series.
This being the first part of the Yellow Jacket's
interview and the second part will be published with
more insight to the formation and structure of the
latest addition of the Westcoast Killa Beez
headlined by Christ Bearer, Meko and Armel.
Enjoy!!!
Doc Doom - Knights Or Nuthin' II (Tribute Week
Day 5)
[West Coast Killa Beez
Series #1]
Fans Pay Tribute
To Doc Doom
Day 5...
Sadly the last day of the tribute ends today, but the whole
tribute and week was not meant to be just a "weekly only" thing, Doc died in
2007, and his name is still active from the lips of his family,
Black knights, Westcoast Killa Beez, fans, and anybody that knew
him personally or through his music. This tribute was meant to refresh
and remind everyone to appreciate life and hold on to what is
here and now, and never forget what was or could have been.
Wu-International
shout outs everybody that has contributed directly and
indirectly, through reading the tributes, or adding on to it....
Doc Doom is gone but never forgotten.
There are really
no fans out there like the Wu fans, and We say this with pride
and content as the legacy the Wu has built and the cult
following it has is really uncomparable to none: It has to be
the royal family of hip-hop, a family tree that the Black
Knights branch off from. While the family and friends miss Doc,
the fans also mourn and miss the musical contribute Doc Doom
has made and would still be making if still alive. We have
gathered comments from Wu-Corp (2007 and this year) and other
relevant sites from fans in Tokyo, Africa, Europe, Australia,
USA of course and everywhere a Killa Bee fan lurks to compile
and end this farewell tribute with fan's comments to Doc Doom. May his
soul rest in peace, its Knights or Nothin'!! Look out for
the Black Knights album "All Skillz No Luck" sometime this year.
Enjoy...
Notes:
Featuring Timbo King, Cappadonna, Blue Raspberry and
more...
Let’s take a dictionary before
we start reviewing the Watchmen album. There we can find the
following :
A
mission = an assigned or self-imposed duty or task;
calling; vocation.
Self-confidence = realistic confidence in one's own
judgment, ability, power, etc.
Ambition = the object, state, or result desired or
sought after
Now that we
got that out of the way and everything is crystal clear ,
it’s time to start with the following statement :
The Watchmen are on a Mission to restore the faith in the
Wu brand, with an exceptional self-confidence and the
ambition to single-handedly save the Hip-Hop art form from
the commercial coma it’s in at present day…
Which is great news of course but do they have what it takes
?
Day 4...
For someone without a solo album, Doc's music catalogue can
easily come close to 4 - 5 albums, let's take the "Stolen Legacy"
of Black Knights' projects that remain unreleased to date,
apparently the Knights recorded about two albums while in the
East Coast after signing with Wu . From our recent interview with
the Wu
Element producer we know Goldfinghaz produced an entire album
for the Knights, then there were songs produced by RZA,
Mathematics and few others that are still hidden under the
chambers of 36. The fans were lucky enough to get hold of their
début album "Every Knight Is a ......" after it got shelved when
Loud records folded. What about the collabo's? Songs before they
joined Wu? Songs they recorded that we don't even know about?
The only people that know or come close to this are the original
Black Knight's members.
In celebrating his life and legacy,
Wu-International's own Reccollectah has dug high and
low to get some exclusive Doc Doom songs, part were never
officially released, some are demo versions, features and songs
from upcoming albums. Black Knights were kind enough to contribute the
self titled mixtape song "Ghetto Romantic" to this project, a
song that will be featured on their upcoming album, to be
released sometime this year: "All Skillz No Luck" with
the late Doc Doom
on it. 71Raw's producer, Anthai Da Protagonist also sent in
a Doc Doom tribute song featuring Black Knights and The
Committee from his upcoming album "Anthai Drugs" due out
sometime this year in August. How about the highly sort after
tribute from the UK artist Shaka Amazulu The 7th that the fans
have been emailing and asking for? after a tight bargain and
squeeze Shaka agreed to send in a snippet of the song "Floyd 3":
the Doc Doom tribute featuring again the Black Knights, Northstar, Warcloud and Dexter Wiggle.
While this mixtape
is packed with a lot of exclusives, rare b-sides and unreleased
songs, some artists went the extra mile and made plans to go
into the studio to record a tribute to Doc Doom specifically for
this mixtape. Popa Wu wanted to record the poetry he wrote for
our Doc Doom Tribute Week, Selima Young had something in work with Cappadonna for this
mixtape and Solomon Childs also agreed to do something for it.
Unfortunately due to time constraint, access to studio, daily
responsibilities and so on, they never managed to get it to us
before we published and released the mixtape, but it will be put
on site if and when it gets to us. Thanks to everybody that has
contributed one way or the other to this project, special thanks
to Reccollectah, TCG Graphix, Black Knights, Anthia and Popa Wu
for their help.

New Update:
Doc Doom - Knights Or Nuthin' II (Tribute Week
Day 1)
[West Coast Killa Beez Series #1]
After a successful
Wu-Elements' series of interviews, Wu-International started
another exciting series "West Coast Killa Beez" to introduce the
world to another side that has steadily creeped up on the
rap game and the West chambers of the Wu-Tang family tree. Most
Wu fans pretty much think the West Coast Killa Beez are just
Black Knights (Crisis, Monk, Holocaust) and Northstar (Meko and
Christ bearer), while that was partially true, Black Knights are
Northstar were the first West Coast group of artists that were
signed and affiliated within the legendary Wu-Tang Killa Beez
family tree. However The Knights and Northstar had a whole gang
of artists with them during the initial formation of each group
and over the years have gradually introduced them to the masses
via their projects.
In 2010, the
collective known as the Killa Bee Gang has grown from just from
two groups to a host of groups, solo artists, from the
likes of Indovizualz, The Committee, Madam Scheez, Big Supa The
Long Beach Pusha to Yellow Jackets, Pesha The First Lady of
Black Ball'd and many many more that this series aims to
showcase to the world.
The interview series
started off logically with the founders, Black Knights, and we
interviewed Crisis The Sharp Shooter and Rugged Monk to find out
how the legacy started for them, how they have coped with the
loss of core member Doc Doom and about their up coming album
"All Skillz No Luck". The group which was a four man set lost
Doc Doom some years back, and most will tell you Doc was one of
if not the actual building block that started off the whole
entire Westcoast Killa Beez movement not just for Black
Knights but also for Northstar.
This whole week will be dedicated to Doc Doom, and will give
fans a chance to remember, appreciate and know more about Doc
Doom and his contribution to the music and movement. Every day
will include something new and different as broken down below.
Wu-Tang is forever, so Doc Doom might be gone but he will never
be forgotten, he will live on through his offspring, through his
music, through the legacy of Black Knights and so on...
Enjoy.....

New Update:
Black Knights - Knights Or Nuthin' (All Skillz No Luck)
Interview
[West Coast
Killa Beez Series #1]
First there were
four, then they became six, and back to four again, and lately
reduced to just two. When one thinks of Black Knights, the names
that mostly come to mind would be that of say Rugged Monk and
Crisis The Sharp Shooter. Not that the rest were not equally as
popular but mainly because these are the remaining Knights still
flying that flagship and having another new generation of MC's
with them in what appears to be an invasion of Westcoast Killa
Beez. The Black Knights were composed of four forward-thinking individuals: Crisis The
Sharpshooter, The Rugged Monk, Holocaust aka Warcloud, and Doc
Doom (R.I.P). The Black Knights first formed in 1995 as young
teenagers coming primarily from Long Beach and Compton and then
teaming up with Wu-Tang's very own RZA in 1997. RZA initially
put them together with their allies Northstar (Meko The Pharaoh
and Christ Bearer) to form Black Knights of the Northstar and
introduced them to the world as the first Westcoast Killa Beez
to ever be associated with the Wu-Tang. Their explosive
talent and professional associations have led to 3 national
tours and extensive key appearances on 3 Platinum and Gold
selling albums including Wu-Tang Killa Bees Swarm and Bobby
Digital. They have worked with names such as George Clinton,
System of a Down, Kam, Kurupt, Battlecat, J-Wells, Killarmy, various Wu-Tang
producers and artists, just to name a few.
The Knights and
Northstar continued to make music together but as separate
groups within a family unit. The Knights have at least completed
about four projects that remain unreleased to date, their first
début was meant to come out via Loud/Wu-Tang records in 2001 but
was shelved due to label folding. Taking matters into their own
hands, the group released the album "Every Knight Is A Black
Knight" independently via their own imprint Black
Ball'd Entertainment and sold more than 15,000 copies worldwide
without any distribution, or mainstream promotions.
Unfortunately the group lost Doc Doom around 2007 and with
Warcloud focusing mainly on his solo and side projects, Crisis
and Monk continued making music, touring and gaining new fans
and associates whilst they were at it.
The Black Knights
are aware of their skills and are now taking steps to fulfil
their potential, Crisis and Monk naturally seek to open
peoples' eyes and to make the best in any life situation and
their music achieves that in a way that has gotten thousands of
albums sold without any financial support, managed to get
clothing deal, their own label with talented roster of artists.
They are
still one of RZA's favourite groups to date and still repping
that Double W, as in West coast and Wu-tang. Their forthcoming
album "All Skillz, No Luck" which features their Wu comrades (RZA,
Prodigal Sunn, Beretta 9 etc) and other giants such as WC, Truth
Hurts etc is a testament to their skills, endurance,
relevance and longevity within the rap game.
RZA planted the
seeds in 1997, these seeds grew, became full trees and are now
planting their own seeds, four years ago there were only a
handful of Westcoast Killa Beez, and in 2008 to date via
Northstar and mostly Black Knights the world has come to know
about talents such as Dexter Wiggle, The Committee, Indovizualz,
Yellow Jackets and many many more stretching beyond the
Westcoast to the East and even globally to Europe, United
Kingdom. Wu-International has decided to dedicate a whole
interview series to the Beez the world never saw coming, This
month and the next we will be covering news, music and exclusive
interviews from the best the west has to offer. It is only
fitting to set it off with the forefathers (even though still
young) and foundation of the Westcoast Killa Beez,
Wu-International presents... Black Knights "All Skillz No Luck"
Interview. Its The Knights or Nothin'..... Enjoy!!

Second Assassin & M-Eighty - Remarkable Timing Interview
Born in Bedstuy,
Brooklyn, NY, 60 Second Assassin is a pretty mysterious figure,
who's mostly known for his unique dirty style and voice.
His name represents the assassination of negative thoughts, not
people. His Sunz of Man's Comrade, Hell Razah explains: "He says everything in one minute.
That's why he rhymes the way he does. He assassinates negativity.
But before the sixtieth second strikes on the clock, he on me.
Actually he goes to the other wall, it places yourself at an
advantage, you comin' for something N' he is already there, he
already done figured it out before you came with it, basically.
But give him sixty seconds which is one minute, he
will assassinate something that is negative."
His first known appearance on a record was on the
late Ol'
Dirty Bastard's debut album, where he sang on the
promo cut "Dirty N Stinkin" and on "Protect Ya Neck
II The Zoo" along with fellow Sunz of Man members
Killah Priest, Hell Razah, Shabazz The Disciple and
Prodigal Sunn, but his most famous appearance was on
Raekwon's album, "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...", in
the song "Glaciers of Ice".
He
only sings in the end of the song, but this is where
you can find him first say his famous "It's been a
looong time..." sentence. He was also featured on
numerous projects and collabos amongst all the Sunz
of Man's albums. Sunz of Man were the first group
ever affiliated with The Wu-Tang Clan amongst
Killarmy and Gravediggaz. All active members have
gone on to release solo materials except for 60
Second Assassin, and as the title of their first
album indicates "The Last Shall Be First
" 60
Sec after so many years of of a promised solo album
drops his début "Remarkable
Timing" featuring the production skills of
Bronze Nazareth and a live band with a full guest
list Wu fans would die for. This project would not
have been possible without the intervention of M-80,
the A&R and brain behind releases such as "Think
Differently : Wu-Tang meets Indie Culture"
The Almighty Project, and much more.
Remarkable Timing has just been released on physical
format week, Wu-International caught up wit the
60 Second man for a round the clock interview and
